Ayotte: Continued Funding of MEADS Another Reason 'American People Frustrated With Washington'

Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R., N.H.) said the continued funding of the Medium Extended Air Defense System was just one more reason why "the American people get so frustrated with Washington" Wednesday on CNBC.

"It's just ridiculous," she said. "$380 million for a missile to nowhere that the army does not want, that will never produce anything. We have already spent $3 billion on it. So my amendment was to strike that wasteful spending and by the way, it has bipartisan support."

Her amendment to the Continuing Resolution bill that would kill funding for MEADS was blocked.

"If we cannot cut something like that, how are ever going to address the almost-$17 trillion in debt," Ayotte said. "This is why the American people get so frustrated with Washington. We have already spent $3 billion on this program. We'll never get a result that our troops can use."
