Maddow Loses to Dr. Drew

MSNBC's flagship program The Rachel Maddow Show hit another low in what has been a rough 2013, losing to HLN's Dr. Drew in Tuesday night's cable news ratings to take third place in the 9 p.m. time slot.

Maddow, host of the liberal network's highest-rated show, had just 744,000 viewers, behind Dr. Drew (753,000), who spent the hour discussing the George Zimmerman murder trial, and well behind usual time slot winner Sean Hannity (1,714,000) of the Fox News Channel.

The lead-in by the 8 p.m. MSNBC program All In with Chris Hayes, which has struggled since its inception in April, did not help Maddow. Hayes' program drew just 495,000 viewers Tuesday to finish in a distant fourth place, behind CNN's Anderson Cooper 360 (769,000), HLN's Nancy Grace (847,000), and Fox News Channel's The O'Reilly Factor (2,695,000).
