Dow Drops 200 Points

Largest intraday drop this year

The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 200 points Tuesday morning by 12:20 p.m., according to the Associated Press, marking the Dow’s biggest intraday loss this year. According to the AP:

The Dow was down 203 points at 12,760 at 12:20 p.m., a loss of 1.6 percent. The biggest decline for the Dow during a trading day this year had been a 159-point decline on Jan. 13.

The Dow has not closed down 100 points in 45 straight trading sessions, the longest streak since 2006.

The AP cited "steep losses in Europe" as a contributor to Tuesday’s stock market decline. Stocks fell in Germany, Spain, and France as investors in debt-ridden Greece near a Thursday deadline to trade their government bonds for lower-value, lower-interest replacements.
