Dem Senator: Congress 'Complicit' in Murder Over Inaction on Gun Control

December 12, 2014

Senator Chris Murphy (D., Conn.) told MSNBC's Andrea Mitchell that he believes Congress is "essentially complicit" in mass shootings because of their failure to pass new gun control measures.

"You know, as the father of a little kindergartner, I think about what those drills do to kids," Murphy said of safety drills some schools have adopted in response to shootings. "Even if they never experience a shooting first hand, the fact that they go to school everyday living in fear of a madman walking through their door and opening fire."

"That is psychologically harmful in a way that's hard to calculate and so this is a problem we have to take on."

The senator then turned his attention to Congress.

"Everyday the Congress does nothing we are essentially complicit in these murders." he said. "We offer a kind of endorsement by our inaction."

"Hopefully we'll be able to move the ball forward on this in the next conference."
