Beauty queens are politicians with better wardrobes. Gliding on the catwalk is not that different from politicking. It makes a world of sense that Miss America 2003 Erika Harold would adapt her congeniality to retail politics and challenge Rep. Rodney Davis in the 2014 Republican primary.
Harold is running against an establishment incumbent in Davis. But the county GOP doesn’t have anything on the will of the people.
The county GOP supporting Davis is displeased with Harold and is reluctant to share the county voting file with her campaign. Harold's case is that Davis was appointed by country bosses as the GOP nominee in his 2012 congressional race, hence never had to face the scrutiny of primary voters.
Harold is an expert at handling bullies. She stood strong in her convictions when the Miss America establishment was unhappy with the fact that she added abstinence education to her national platform of "Preventing Youth Violence and Bullying: Protect Yourself, Respect Yourself."
She is also a diehard Illini fan.
The only thing Harold likes more than her Fighting Illini is the Constitution. Harold won the Ames Moot Court Competition in her Harvard class, a challenge that our 43 President decided to forego when he was a student.
She's also firm believer in the right to life.
Harold even boasts the endorsement of another Miss America, who just happens to have a massive platform for Harold to make her case to the fine Americans in the 13th district.
This is one race I'll be paying attention to. Close, close attention.
