The center of the college football universe remains fully entrenched in the American Southeast. It’s to no surprise that the 2013 season launches in the Province of the Carolinas, pitting the University of South Carolina Gamecocks against the University of North Carolina Tarheels.
Each team has shown promise of late, but historically, neither squad has ever been relevant nationally. UNC’s iconic athlete played hoops and South Carolina was a doormat until they hired the Old Ball Coach, Steve Spurrier.
Billions in television revenue has raised all the boats in the college football ocean, making each school more competitive to net elite in-state talent. South Carolina was able to convince the whale from Rock Hill, S.C., Jadeveon Clowney, to play at home.

The Cheer Cocks are a cordial bunch, posing for photos with division rival Georgia.
But when it's game time, they get down to business.
And there's plenty to like about the visiting Heels. This here blog’s favorite WWE Diva Miss Charlotte is a UNC fan.
Give it another season for North Carolina to raise up and twist their shirt like a helicopter; I’m picking the OBC and the Cocks.
