White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre often has no idea what is going on. When asked about the country's most pressing issues, she frequently tells reporters she doesn't "have anything specific to share."
But when she remarks on the nation's record-high inflation, the former Kamala Harris chief of staff stays on message: "Putin's tax hike" is to blame.
Unfortunately for the White House spokeswoman, Federal Reserve chairman Jerome Powell has already thrown cold water on the Biden administration's favorite inflation excuse.
"Inflation was high before—certainly before the war in Ukraine broke out," Powell said last month during a Senate Banking Committee hearing.
