'He Wants To Embarrass Us': Ukrainian-Born GOP Lawmaker Slams Biden's Response to Russian Invasion

March 1, 2022

In an impassioned speech Tuesday, Rep. Victoria Spartz (R., Ind.), who was born in Ukraine, slammed Joe Biden's ineffectual response to Russia's invasion of the war-torn country, saying the president will have the "blood of many millions of Ukrainians" on his hands.

"This president needs to get his act together and exercise some leadership. What's happening under his watch is an atrocity," Spartz said during a House Republican press briefing. "What he is doing is embarrassing for the leader of the free world. ... He knew that we got embarrassed in Afghanistan and he wants to embarrass us again."

Spartz called on Biden to pause U.S. purchases of Russian oil exports, which the president left out of his recent sanctions on the country. The Biden administration has faced criticism in recent days for importing Russian oil while pushing for greater restrictions on U.S. oil and natural gas production.

"We produce energy cleaner than anybody in the world," Sen. Joe Manchin (D., W.Va.) said Monday. "We're buying 650,000 barrels a day from Russia. It’s ridiculous. Totally ridiculous."
