NFL Hopeful to Re-enlist in Marines

Brandon O’Brien is re-enlisting in the Marines instead of pursuing an NFL career, according to NFL.com.

O’Brien had previously served four years in the Marines.

The Montana State Northern University wide receiver was a long shot for the NFL draft, but the 30-year-old had logged some impressive times in the 40-yard dash that could have gotten him in front of NFL teams. O’Brien changed his mind after the Boston Marathon bombings:

O'Brien's agent contacted NFL.com's Andy Fenelon on Tuesday morning to tell him that Brandon had a change of heart. O'Brien is re-enlisting with the Marines.

"He said watching what happened yesterday left him with a big hole in his heart and told me he wants to ensure that this never happens again to anybody, anywhere. The kid is a real hero," O'Brien's agent, Brad Berkowitz, said.
