Harvey Weinstein will challenge his firing from the studio he founded, the Weinstein Company, at its board of directors meeting later this month.
The meeting will take place on Oct. 17 and Weinstein's firing is on the agenda, according to TMZ. Weinstein will be connected to the meeting through a phone because he will have already checked himself into a rehab facility.
Weinstein, the powerful Hollywood producer and Democratic mega-donor, was fired after numerous allegations of sexual harassment, assault, and even rape surfaced. The New York Times was the first to report on the allegations. The New Yorker subsequently published a story detailing how Italian actress Ambra Battilana Gutierrez staged a sting operation with the police, during which, she secretly recorded Weinstein admitting that he groped her and had done so often to other women.
Questions surround Weinstein's firing regarding whether the company violated his contract when the board fired him. The 2015 employment contract between Weinstein and the company stated Weinstein couldn't be fired if he reimbursed the company for settlements and judgements, according to TMZ.
According to the contract, if Weinstein "treated someone improperly in violation of the company's Code of Conduct," he must reimburse TWC for settlements or judgments. Additionally, "You [Weinstein] will pay the company liquidated damages of $250,000 for the first such instance, $500,000 for the second such instance, $750,000 for the third such instance, and $1,000,000 for each additional instance."
Weinstein's civil lawyer, Patty Glaser, will be at the meeting to represent her client.
