Nevada Dems Fined for Campaign Finance Violations

Seven Nevada Democrats in the State Assembly are being fined $150 each for failing to report all of their campaign expenses, in violation of campaign finance law. Assembly Majority Leader Marcus Conklin and Assembly members Marilyn Dondero-Loop, Peggy Pierce, Lucy Flores, David Bobzien, Skip Daly, and Debbie Smith failed to report a combined $45,000 in expenses.

The AP reports:

The [Las Vegas] Sun reports that the lawmakers were told by their private lawyer that they only had to report expenses directly related to their election efforts.

But state law requires the reporting of all money spent from a campaign fund. …

The unreported expenses went toward rent in Carson City, electronics, house cleaning and meals, among other things.
