Brazile to Podesta in January: 'I Will Be Your Biggest Surrogate' Once Clinton Has Nomination Wrapped Up

Then Democratic National Committee vice-chair Donna Brazile told Hillary Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta earlier this year that she would be Clinton's "biggest surrogate" once Clinton secured the nomination.

In one of the messages released by WikiLeaks, Podesta emailed Brazile on January 3, 2016, wishing her a Happy New Year and writing, "2015 was challenging, but we ended in a good place thanks to your help and support. Look forward to working with you to elect the first woman President of the United States."

She replied, "As soon as the nomination is wrapped up, I will be your biggest surrogate."

At the time Brazile was serving as the Vice Chair of the DNC and looked to take on a position of neutrality by praising both Clinton and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.) publicly during the primary process.

"I haven't endorsed tonight," Brazile said during a CNN appearance on Feb. 10, more than a month after the email she sent to Podesta.

Brazile has since become the chair of the DNC after former chair Debbie Wasserman-Schultz (D., Fla.) resigned in July.

Sanders and his supporters argued that the DNC was secretly supporting Hillary Clinton during the primary process. Previous leaked emails forced Wasserman Schultz to resign because other hacked emails showed her and other members of the DNC conspiring to secure the nomination for Clinton.
