Sen. John McCain’s (R., Ariz.) reelection campaign released a new advertisement on Wednesday showing his Democratic opponent, Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick, walking away from her constituents when faced with hard questions about how Obamacare has hurt her district.
The ad opens by saying this election "is a choice between two very different candidates," before displaying a quote from 2011 of Kirkpatrick saying that her vote for Obamacare was "the one [she is] most proud about."
Kirkpatrick was publicly proud of her vote, even though it harmed her constituents and Arizona as a whole, a voice in the background says.
"Before proudly voting for Obamacare, which devastated Arizona, liberal Ann Kirkpatrick refused to face her constituents," the voice in the ad says.
The ad then cuts to a shot of Vietnam in 1967, when McCain was a prisoner of war in the country.
"John McCain was given the chance to walk away once when he was a P.O.W.," the voice describes.
When given the decision to desert his fellow soldiers or stay imprisoned, he chose to stay until all of his soldiers were freed as well.
"But, McCain chose to stay in a prison camp until his fellow soldiers had their chance to go home," the narrator says. "Ann Kirkpatrick walked away on Arizona. John McCain will never turn his back on us."
