President Barack Obama’s trip to the Philippines last month totaled $1.1 million in hotel costs alone.

A contract for the trip posted on Friday, showing that the "VIP" visitors stayed at the Marriott and the Pan Pacific Hotel, Manila’s "best luxury" five star hotel.

The contract said the hotels provided as many as 4,300 hotel room nights during the president’s visit to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit on Nov. 18.

"I recommend that the Department of State use other than full and open competition for the acquisition of hotel rooms for this VIP visit," the document submitted by the State Department’s travel specialist said. "The estimated cost is $1,178,978.66."
