At least 14 people were killed and another 14 injured in a shooting in San Bernardino, California, police said Wednesday.
Law enforcement officials said at a news conference that the motive behind the shooting was unclear and that they are unsure whether it was an act of terrorism.
Fire department officials first confirmed the active shooter situation in San Bernardino late Wednesday morning. According to CNN, the incident took place at a facility for individuals with developmental disabilities called the Inland Regional Center.
Sources told the Los Angeles Times that the shooter or shooters may have waged the gun attack during a holiday party being held at the facility.
The San Bernardino Fire Department wrote on Twitter at about 11:15 a.m. PST that it was responding to reports of a "20-victim shooting incident" in the city. Authorities were working to "clear the scene."

According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department, the police department confirmed that there was between one and three possible suspects in the shooting.

The incident occurred in the area of Orange Show Road and Waterman Avenue near Park Center. An individual at a gas station near the scene told the Associated Press that about 150 law enforcement officers had descended on the area of the shooting. SWAT teams and the bomb squad were clearing the building where the shooting took place.
According to law enforcement sources, authorities used a robot to detonate a suspicious device found in the building, the Los Angeles Times reported. Police are now looking for a black SUV that witnesses saw three men with rifles enter before driving away.
