Sen. Joe Lieberman (I., Conn.) said Sunday he would expect a "tough" confirmation process for Sen. Chuck Hagel if he is nominated for Secretary of Defense, in part because of Hagel's "outlying" positions on Iran and its nuclear weapons program.
"I wouldn't say his vote disqualify him...but I would have some really serious questions to ask him, not just on Israel," Lieberman said in an interview with Candy Crowley.
"I think in that sense anybody who's tried to communicate with Iran has run into a brick wall, and Chuck Hagel has consistently been against economic sanctions to try to change the behavior of the Islamic regime--the radical regime in Tehran--which is the only way to do it short of war," Lieberman said.
"I think this will be a very tough confirmation process, I don't how it would end, but there are reasonable questions to ask and Chuck Hagel would have to answer," he said.
