Mitchell Reports: Stimulus Did Not Live Up To Hype

February 18, 2014

MSNBC's Andrea Mitchell said the stimulus signed into law five years ago never lived up to the hype Tuesday on Morning Joe, calling the jobs it created "a drop in the bucket."

"I think it did not do what its backers claimed that it did," she said. "1.6 million jobs is a drop in the bucket. That's not any kind of job creation."

President of the Council on Foreign Relations Richard Haass also said the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act failed to address American entitlement obligations.

"As the CBO and everybody points out, there's a train wreck coming," he said. "It's about six to seven years down the road. Nothing has been done to avoid that train wreck. It's really ironic. Just at a time when the United States has reduced its dependency on imports of oil, we have increased our dependency on imports of dollars. It is a bad situation."

The Washington Free Beacon outlined the top 10 most wasteful and abusive government spending projects brought about by the stimulus Monday.
