A majority of Americans say they are not better off than they were four years ago, in a new Gallup/USA Today poll released Tuesday.
This is the first time a majority of voters has held this position since Ronald Reagan beat Jimmy Carter in 1980, according to USA Today.
Nationwide, 55 percent of voters say they are not better off than four years ago in the poll, while 56 percent of swing-state voters say the same. A plurality of voters (33 percent) blame President Obama for their declining economic position, 13 percent attribute blame to George W. Bush, and 28 percent blame both.
Despite the poll numbers, Obama carries 47 percent of the vote to Mitt Romney's 44 percent.
