White House press secretary Jay Carney said he "did not remember" if President Obama attended a super PAC fundraiser last October Monday in the White House press conference.

CNN's Jim Acosta referenced the anecdote from the new book Double Down which claims President Obama attended a Beverly Hills, CA fundraiser in October 2012.

The revelation is making waves, as President Obama's campaign manager Jim Messina promised the president, vice president, and first lady would not take part in fundraising efforts for super PACs:

Just eight months earlier, Obama campaign manager Jim Messina had promised Obama supporters in a blog post that "the president, vice president, and first lady will not be a part" of the campaign’s efforts to support Super Pacs.

The appearance was legal, according to the book authors, since Obama did not make a direct appeal for money, but the revelation further blurs the already cloudy lines that divided campaign fundraising and outside spending in the 2012 campaign.
