Matthews Compares Boehner to Mahmoud Abbas, House GOP to Terrorists

'They're worried about the terrorists behind them'

MSNBC host Chris Matthews compared Speaker of the House John Boehner to Mahmoud Abbas and the House GOP to "terrorists" Monday on Hardball.

In a ridiculous false equivalency, Matthews said just as Abbas cannot strike a deal with Israel because of the "terrorists behind [him]," Boehner cannot deliver on a deal because of the House GOP:

CHRIS MATTHEWS: This is the problem Ithat srael has had all these years with the Arab side, Gene. It's not there aren't good people on the Arab side. It's that the good people on the Arab side don't call the shots and they're always worried about the terrorists behind them that would break the deal. You know, there's been -- you know there's been Mahmoud Abbas for example, is obviously a thoroughly going reasonable reasonable person who wants a state and knows he has to have peace to get it. But it seems people like Boehner, they can't deliver on the deal.

Matthews' suggestion that Boehner cannot deliver on a debt ceiling "deal" is fairly remarkable considering President Obama himself has indicated he is unwilling to negotiate with the House speaker on the debt limit.
