Hayes Thinks Andy Harris is Tom Price

'My bad'

Chris Hayes misidentified Rep. Andy Harris (R., Md.) as Rep. Tom Price (R., Ga.) Thursday night on his MSNBC program and went on to discuss the latter at length.

Wearing a stethoscope, Hayes said he probably looked almost as ridiculous as House Republicans who wore lab coats during a Thursday press conference to criticize the Democrats' handling of the government shutdown and the effects on the National Institutes of Health and cancer research.

Harris addressed reporters but the chyron, and Hayes, thought he was Price, who is an orthopedic surgeon.

"That was Georgia Representative Tom Price, with other House Republicans, introducing a bill to restore funding just to the National Institutes of Health," Hayes said. "So why is that ridiculous? Because Congressman Price is wearing his lab coat and stethoscope, even though he hasn't practiced medicine since he opted to run for the State Senate in 1996. And I would imagine that the rest of those House members standing behind him in lab coats, in case anyone missed it, who once worked in private practice as doctors, haven't practiced medicine in quite some time either."

Hayes issued a terse correction at the end of the broadcast, calling it "my bad."
