State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki told reporters Monday that Secretary of State John Kerry has been working with the Russians since April to put a plan in place to destroy Syria’s chemical weapons.
This claim was quickly questioned by Associated Press reporter Matt Lee when he asked Psaki, "you certainly have drunk the State Department Kool-Aid, haven’t you?"
Q: So, just to clarify. When you said that Secretary Kerry has been discussing destroying chemical weapons since April, was that also with Lavrov and the Russians?
PSAKI: Yes, that was what I was inferring. So you know, this has been a shared concern of the Secretary's and the foreign minister's -- actually, back to the secretary taking this position here in this lovely building and probably long before. But when he was in Russia in April or May, he discussed with President Putin and with Foreign Minister Lavrov this issue.
Q: You certainly have drunk the State Department Kool-Aid, haven't you?
PSAKI: There are certain floors that are lovely. The 7th and 8th floor is lovely.
Q: This is not one of them. (Laughter.)
