A man who shot three Houston police officers, barricaded himself in his house, and kept shooting surrendered on Thursday evening.
Roland Caballero, 31, spotted officers at around 2:40 p.m. Thursday and sped off in a vehicle, which he crashed, KPRC2 reported. When police exited their cars, Caballero started firing, striking three officers. He then carjacked a different vehicle and took off to his home.
Police pursued him and found he had barricaded himself in his house. He took shots at officers until around 7:45 p.m., when he walked out with his hands up.
The three officers were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and are expected to recover.
This is not the first police shooting in Houston this week. Harris County police corporal Charles Galloway was fatally shot during a Sunday traffic stop.
Both shootings come during a difficult time for police. Last year saw a murder wave across the United States, with 12 cities recording all-time highs, as well as lingering anti-police rhetoric and protests. Those same cities have reported dramatic mass resignations of police officers.
