President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama canceled a photo op with President-Elect Donald Trump and future First Lady Melania Trump at the White House on Thursday, the Wall Street Journal reported.
White House spokesman Josh Earnest denied that the White House was behind the cancellation of the photo op during a daily press briefing.
The Obamas became strong campaigners for Hillary Clinton during the presidential race and held rallies for her around the country.
In 2008, after President Obama won his first election to the presidency, President George W. Bush and First Lady Laura Bush welcomed the Obamas to the White House in what has become a tradition, and took a picture of the two couples.
Obama held a meeting with Trump in the Oval Office while Michelle Obama gave Melania Trump a tour of the White House residence. The Obama administration has said that it will fully cooperate with the transition to the upcoming Trump administration.
Despite trading barbs throughout the campaign, Thursday was the first time the Trumps and Obamas have met.
