Earnest Refuses to Say Whether There Was Failure of Leadership Under Archuleta

July 10, 2015

Within moments after Katherine Archuleta resigned from her position as Director of the Office of Personnel Management Friday, the White House refused to say if there was any failure within the office under Archuleta’s direction.

Soon-to-be former AP reporter Jim Kuhnhenn asked White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest if the White House thought that there was an actual failure under Archuleta’s leadership.

Earnest danced around the question and highlighted the accomplishments that Archuleta managed to have done under her time as director of OPM.

"But given the urgent and significant challenges facing OPM, right now a new manager with a specialized set of skills and experiences is needed," Earnest said.

Earnest was adamant that the new skills and experiences that acting director of OPM has does not diminish the work that Archuleta had done.

Thursday afternoon, OPM reported that 21.5 million people were now affected by the hack that had happened in April. Archuleta testified under oath to both the Senate and Congress that the number of people affected was only 4.2 million people. The calls for her firing from both political parties were met this afternoon.
