Obama Saw Democratic Platform Before Convention

President only sought to make changes after uproar over Jerusalem, God language

September 5, 2012

President Obama viewed the Democratic Party’s controversial platform regarding Israel before the convention began, but only sought to make changes after pro-Israel supporters expressed outrage over the language, according to Politico.

An Obama campaign source told the outlet that "Obama had seen the language prior to the convention," but that he "did not seek to change it until after Republicans jumped on the omissions of God and Jerusalem."

Additionally, "a senior White House (official) said Wednesday that the platform dispute was an unfortunate stumble during this week’s convention," according to the report.

Democratic National Committee chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz confirmed to the Miami Herald that the president personally intervened to change the language in the platform Wednesday.
