The former president of the SEIU chapter of Los Angeles was convicted of embezzling due fees of the low-wage workers he represented, according to the Los Angeles Times and ABC Los Angeles.
Tyronne Freeman,the president of the second-largest SEIU chapter in the country, was charged for spending union dues on "elaborate personal expenses"--including $8,000 for his wedding in Honolulu. That marriage was to Pilar Planells, his assistant at the local union, while Freeman was still married to his first wife.
Freeman represented 160,000 low-wage workers in his SEIU role; additionally, Freeman represented 30,000 workers as president of California United Homecare Workers.
