Sex Harassment Settlement Calls for San Diego Mayor to Resign: Report

August 22, 2013

SAN DIEGO (Reuters) - San Diego Mayor Bob Filner will resign from office as part of the proposed settlement he reached with city officials in the sexual harassment lawsuit brought against him by a former aide, the Los Angeles Times reported on Thursday.

The newspaper's account cited unnamed sources familiar with three days of mediated negotiations that have been held between Filner's lawyers, the city and attorneys for the plaintiff in the lawsuit, his former press secretary. Reuters could not immediately confirm the report.

City Attorney Jan Goldsmith announced Wednesday night that a deal had been reached, but said specifics would remain confidential until after the settlement was presented on Friday in closed session to the City Council.
