Rep. Maxine Waters (D., Calif.) on Friday praised former President Barack Obama's administration for doing "everything" it could have "possibly [done]" against President Donald Trump and his alleged relations with Russia.
MSNBC's Chris Hayes asked Waters for her reaction to the backlash she received about the statements she has been making against the Trump administration.
Waters said that she is "absolutely fine," and will continue to do everything she can to help "connect the dots" on what she believes is collusion between Trump and Russia.
Waters stated that she believes there was a "connection" between the Trump campaign and Russian officials.
"I think there is a trail and I think that the Obama administration has done everything that it can possibly do," she said.
She said her claim was "probably verified somewhat" by a news organization.
"And that's probably been verified somewhat by the New York Times to make sure that enough people have seen some of the meetings and some of the connections, so that they have something to go on when the investigations are really under way," Waters said.
Waters added that she believes Attorney General Jeff Sessions should resign, after he recused himself on Thursday from a special investigation into the alleged Russian influence on the 2016 campaign.
"What we know is that we can't trust the AG, we can't trust the FBI, we can't trust [James] Comey, we can't trust Sessions," she said. "And so we've got to get an independent overseer of some kind in here to get going with the investigations."
Hayes asked whether Waters would want a "9/11 style commission" to investigate the matters.
"Well, absolutely," Waters said.
