The Washington Free Beacon’s Ellison Barber joined Fox News Wednesday to discuss the startling revelation that the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms has had dozens of firearms lost and stolen in recent years.
A report found that 45 guns were reported lost or stolen between 2009 and 2013. ATF counters that with 2,400 special agents the number makes up roughly 1% of the agencies guns.
"It is not a rampant problem, but what is important to note is that it is happening with ATF more than any other law enforcement agency," Barber said pointing out ATF’s poor track record with the "Fast and Furious" scandal of 2011.
Barber noted that it would be one thing for an agent to lose or forget an item, but it is totally unacceptable when that item is integral to the agent's job, such as a firearm.
"Seems like you still have, even with a small percent, enough people that are being negligent with their weapons," Barber said. "So I think it raises serious cause for concern."
