Lopez Will Keep $64K Pension After Resigning

New York Democratic Assemblyman Vito Lopez will retain an annual pension of $64,634.28 after his resignation, WNYC News reports.

The Brooklyn Democrat initially planned to resign in June, but he announced on Saturday that he would move up his resignation date ahead of expulsion proceedings that were set to begin on Monday.

The comptroller's office says Lopez would have been able to keep his pension even if he had been expelled from the legislature because the state constitution allows for it.

Several prominent New York politicians called for Lopez’s resignation following sexual harassment accusations by multiple women.

Lopez has said he is still seeking a seat on the New York City Council.
