HOWARD DEAN: And the problem with this bill is it passed essentially with a big Democratic majority and not much Republican support. So this—this could have been fixed. It wasn’t. And it wasn’t for a variety of reasons. But if you look at the approach that was taken to build this bill, they brought every single interest group to the White House and gave them something in return for something else. The individual mandate is what the insurance companies got, and I think that was a terrible mistake. Hopefully, it will not destroy—losing the individual mandate will not destroy the whole bill, because the bill has got some very good stuff in it, and a lot of Americans are going to be very sorry.
