Not a Kennedy

February 10, 2012

The Hartford Courant reports that Democratic Connecticut politician John Kennelly was arrested on DUI charges in Hartford, CT Thursday night.

Kennelly, 42, served on the Hartford City Council from 2001 to 2003, and is currently running for a seat on Hartford’s Democratic town committee. Kennelly was initially pulled over for failing to drive in his proper lane.

Kennelly hails from a longstanding Democratic political dynasty. His mother Barbara Kennelly represented Connecticut’s First District in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1982 to 1999, and ran as the Democratic nominee for governor in 1998. His father, James, served as Speaker of the Connecticut House of Representatives. His grandfather, John M. Bailey, worked alongside Presidents Kennedy and Johnson as chairman of the Democratic National Committee from 1961 to 1968.

When asked for comment, John Kennelly told the Courant, "It’s a matter under investigation, and I have no comment."
