A recently opened Washington state rest stop bathroom took 20 years and $3.2 million to build, KING5 reports:
"We couldn't believe it would cost $1.4 million," said Adams.
That was in 1991, and the surprises were just beginning. The project limped along for 20 years and by the time construction began, the price ballooned to $3.2 million.
Grand plans for the project were complicated by issues over the tiny town's water and sewer supplies and after all that time and money, the restrooms in the rest area building ended up being outhouses - no running water, no sewer hook-up.
