Dr. Don Berwick, the former head of Medicare and Medicaid, will join controversial left-wing think tank Center for American Progress. He left his role at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services at the end of 2011, after his nomination was blocked by Republicans.
Boston.com reports:
His work there will focus on "defending health care reform" and developing new ideas for improving health care and cutting costs. He will join his former colleague at Harvard, David Cutler, also a senior fellow.
"Dr. Berwick is a visionary leader of change and progress in our health care system," Neera Tanden, the center president. "As the Administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and in his previous roles he has championed reforms of our health care system that lower costs while improving care, all towards the goal of serving patients better."
The Center for American Progress has faced criticism of late for its association with anti-Semitic commentary.
