The American public’s support for the U.S. fight against the Islamic State (IS) is growing, a new Pew Research Center poll shows.
Sixty-three percent of those polled approve of the U.S. campaign against IS while just 30 percent disapprove. Support has grown since October when 57 percent approved of the fight while 33 percent disapproved.
Support for ground troops has also grown since October. According to the latest poll, 47 percent support sending ground troops to fight IS. Forty-nine percent oppose that action. In October, 39 percent supported sending ground troops while 55 percent opposed it.
While Americans are overall supportive of the fight against IS, the poll shows that a majority does not believe the campaign has been effective.
Pew reports:
Meanwhile, the public continues to express skepticism about the effectiveness of the U.S. campaign against ISIS. Nearly six-in-ten (58%) say the military campaign against Islamic militants is going not too well (38%) or not at all well (20%); just 36% think it is going very well (7%) or fairly well (30%). Views about progress of the military campaign are unchanged from October.
