Top Obama Adviser on Economy: 'People Don't Feel As Good About it as They Should'

Blames Poor US Economic Sentiment on Ebola, Islamic State, GOP and Wage Stagnation

Senior White House adviser Dan Pfeiffer said Friday that the American people’s views of the economy are mistaken.

"People don’t feel as good about it as they should," Pfeiffer said speaking with reporters at a Christian Science Monitor breakfast.

Pfeiffer said that Democrats, through no fault of their own, found "it was hard to break through" to the American people on the economy before the elections.

There were many reasons for this communications disconnect, including the media’s focus on ISIS and Ebola.

Pfeiffer believes that Democrats should be proud of the economic progress they have made, "because the legislative efforts that contributed to it, were things that were done – almost were done entirely and almost only by Democrats, as Republicans sat on the sideline."

"Republican brinksmanship" took the focus away from the economic progress generated from Democratic legislation.

Americans currently view President Obama's handling of the economy very poorly according to Real Clear Politics' polling average. Only 42% approve of the Obama's handling of the economy while 54% disapprove.
