Carlson: Wasserman Schultz Comments 'Out of Line'

September 4, 2014

Fox News host Gretchen Carlson criticized DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz for her bizarre and tasteless comments Wednesday.

Wasserman Schultz said that Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker and his fellow "Republican Tea Party Extremists" are "grabbing us by the hair and pulling us back" and giving women "the back of his hand" while speaking at a roundtable discussion in Milwaukee.

The Chairwoman's allusion to domestic violence has sparked significant criticism, particularly from Wisconsin Lieutenant Governor Rebecca Kleefisch, who called her comments "absolutely hideous."

Carlson devoted her 'My Take' segment to Wasserman Schultz's comments.

"I don't care what your political party is, but using the very serious topic of domestic violence to score political points or attack on an opponent is totally out of line," Carlson said.  "Talk to any victim, man or woman, and you'll find out."

Wasserman Schultz publicly apologized for her comments Thursday afternoon, but said that her apology "shouldn't detract from the broader point" she was trying to make about Walker and the effect his policies have on Wisconsin women.
