Republican challenger Jeff Bell is within striking distance of incumbent Sen. Cory Booker (D., N.J.), according to new polling data from CBS and the New York Times.

The poll shows Bell trailing Booker by just seven points in a race that just last month looked like it would be an easy victory for the incumbent.

"When this Senate race started most pundits wanted to write it off," said Bell in a statement following the poll. "They can't do that anymore."

"New Jersey voters are simply dissatisfied with the job that Cory Booker's done in Washington and are looking to replace him with someone who has a different approach to the job."
