Special Ops Chief Tells University of Texas: 'Make Your Bed' If you Want to Change the World

Naval Adm. William H. McRaven gave the commencement speech for the University of Texas' graduating 2014 class, instilling life lessons that began with "making your bed."

"If you make your bed every morning, you will have accomplished the first task of the day," he said. "It will give you a small sense of pride, and it will encourage you to do another task, and another, and another."

McRaven also relayed a series of things he learned from the grueling training he and other Navy SEALs endured and how they could help the new graduates "change the world."

It matters not your gender, social status, orientation or background, because the lessons to overcome struggles apply equally to all, McRaven said. A Navy SEAL for 36 years, McRaven played a prominent role in Operation Neptune Spear, the raid that killed Osama bin Laden.
