In another cringe-worthy moment from her campaign trail, Democratic Senate candidate Alison Lundergan Grimes falsely claimed that pop sensation Miley Cyrus was from Kentucky, when in fact the former "Hannah Montana" star was born and raised in neighboring Tennessee.
"You will hear on behalf of this campaign…a little Katy Perry roar," Grimes told the crowd, which included former President Bill Clinton. "And by the end of this race… we’ll be bringing home our Kentucky girl Miley Cyrus with a little wrecking ball straight to the guardian of gridlock."
Cyrus has never lived in Kentucky. She was born in Franklin, Tennessee in 1992 and was raised there before moving to Los Angeles, California.
It is unclear why Grimes would invoke Cyrus, given that most of the former Disney star’s fans are below the voting age. Perhaps Grimes believes her only chance of unseating 5-term Sen. Mitch McConnell is by recruiting out-of-state star power. Or maybe Grimes wants Cyrus to teach her the art of twerking.
At press time, rumors were that guest Bill Clinton had proposed this wrecking ball for Grimes to use.
