Consumer Financial Protection Bureau head Richard Cordray donated money to a Democrat seeking election in Ohio, a new report from the Dayton Daily News reveals. Despite promising that he wouldn't get involved in politics prior to his controversial recess appointment by President Obama, Cordray cut a $500 check for a candidate seeking local office.

Consumer Financial Protection Bureau director Richard Cordray vowed during his confirmation hearings that he would keep politics separate from his work, adding that "the work of a federal independent agency and law enforcement work, in particular, must be completely absolved of politics." But Cordray, a former Ohio attorney general, nonetheless gave $500 to a candidate for Franklin County recorder in December, while his confirmation was pending before the U.S. Senate. ...
In January, President Barack Obama used a recess appointment to name Cordray as the bureau director after Senate Republicans blocked his nomination.
