State Department spokesperson Jen Psaki was pressed by a reporter Tuesday on how the Russian brokered chemical weapons deal that averted U.S. strikes guarantees President Bashar al-Assad's job security:

Q: I'm sorry, but I just can't understand how that is -- I mean, I understand that you want that to happen. But this agreement pretty much gives Assad job security. Don't you agree?

MS. PSAKI: No.

Q: I mean, he is the one that is being tasked with implementing this agreement. So until the agreement is implemented, I mean, he's the person that will be implementing it.

MS. PSAKI: No, I don't agree. Our view and how we have -- would press this and what we've discussed with our partners is that any individual, any government that is in place, whether that's a transitional government, whatever it may be, would be in charge of implementing this. And that is the body that would work through this.
