White House Deputy Chief of Staff Rick Dearborn to Leave Administration

White House deputy chief of staff Rick Dearborn announced Thursday that he is is stepping down from his post in January.

Dearborn is the latest in a string of high-profile departures from the West Wing, including the resignation of deputy national security adviser Dina Powell and reported stormy exit of aide Omarosa Manigault Newman.

Dearborn said the time was right to leave following the Republican victory on the Trump administration's long-sought tax overhaul bill.

Fox News reports:

Dearborn told Fox News that his departure is "bittersweet" because he loves working for President Trump. But he said the time was right following the tax bill victory.

Dearborn oversaw the White House’s political operation, public outreach and legislative affairs, The Wall Street Journal reported. He will stay in the position for the first month or two of the next year, the report said.

Dearborn’s decision to resign comes after Dina Powell announced earlier this month that she will be leaving the administration.

White House chief of staff John Kelly told the Wall Street Journal that he was heartbroken to see Dearborn leave and thanked him for the "tremendous energy" he brought to the administration.

"Rick loyally served the president for two and a half years and brought tremendous energy to the White House staff," Kelly said. "He's a super guy and it breaks my heart to see him leave, but I look forward to his continued personal friendship and support for the president's agenda."
