Waters Politicizes Eulogy for Civil Rights Activist: 'I'm Gonna Say Impeach 45 Everyday'

Rep. Maxine Waters

Democratic Rep. Maxine Waters (Calif.) pushed for President Donald Trump's impeachment while delivering a eulogy at the funeral of comedian and civil rights activist Dick Gregory on Saturday.

Thousands of people lined up outside the City of Praise Family Ministries church outside Washington, D.C. to celebrate the life of Gregory, including Bill Cosby, Stevie Wonder, MSNBC host Lawrence O'Donnell, Rep. Eleanor Holmes Norton (D., D.C.), Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan, and several other notable figures in politics and the media.

"I'm cleaning out the White House," Waters said during her eulogy. "We're going to sanitize the White House. We're not going to take what is happening in this country."

Waters then asked the congregation whether they had "taken enough," prompting many people in the crowd to say "yeah."

"And then comes along this person," Waters said, referring to Trump. "This person who does not respect you. This dishonorable human being who cheats everybody! This dishonorable human being who will lie at the drop of a hat."

She then criticized Trump's Cabinet by associating them with the so-called "alt-right" movement and the Klu Klux Klan.

"This dishonorable human being who can criticize everybody but [Vladimir] Putin and Russia," Waters said, not mentioning the Russia sanctions bill that Trump signed last month.

Moments later, Waters said that Democrats are going to "take back the house that slaves built."

Waters concluded her eulogy by calling for the impeachment of Trump and discussing how offended she is by his presence in the White House.

"I know even my colleagues get very upset," Waters said. "Some get afraid when I say 'impeachment.' When I get through with Donald Trump, he's gonna wish he had been impeached. I feel it very deeply. I am so offended by him and I love my people so much that I am not going to put up with it."

"I'm gonna say 'impeach 45 everyday, impeach 45 everyday, impeach 45 everyday,'" Waters added.

Waters has been one of the harshest critics of Trump's presidency, calling for Trump's impeachment as early as three weeks after he was sworn into office. She has argued that Trump and his associates colluded with Russia during the 2016 presidential campaign.
