Trump, Clinton Cancel Campaign Events in Wake of Dallas Killings

Hillary Clinton

Presidential candidates Donald Trump (R.) and Hillary Clinton (D.) announced they had canceled their campaign events Friday after the murders of five police officers Thursday night in Dallas.

President Obama, speaking from Poland during his overseas trip, condemned the "vicious, calculated and despicable" killings. It is the worst attack on police officers since September 11, 2001.

NBC News reported Trump would postpone his scheduled speech in Miami, Florida.

Clinton was scheduled to appear alongside Vice President Joe Biden in Scranton, Pennsylvania, but that event was also canceled, according to The Hill:

Clinton's campaign announced that a scheduled event with Vice President Joe Biden in Pennsylvania would be postponed.

"Due to the tragic events in Dallas, the July 8 Hillary for America campaign event with Vice President Biden will be postponed," Clinton’s campaign said in a Friday morning statement.

"Details on rescheduling the event will be provided as soon as possible."

Clinton will deliver her planned keynote address at the African Methodist Episcopal Church conference, however, where she is expected to address police shootings and the killings in Dallas.

Downtown Dallas was placed in lockdown early Friday morning after snipers shot and killed five Dallas police officers and wounded at least six others. The events occurred during a protest about recent police killings of African American men in Louisiana and Minnesota.
