Tammy Baldwin Fundraiser With Kavanaugh Accuser’s Lawyer Canceled

Tammy Baldwin

A fundraiser scheduled for Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D., Wisc.) with the attorney representing Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, who has accused Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of committing sexual assault 36 years ago, has been canceled after media contacted the firm over the event.

"Your support for Tammy's campaign has been wonderful and we really appreciate the help," the email invite obtained by the Washington Free Beacon reads. "We are fast approaching the final weeks and we could use your help one more time. We are putting together a great event in a couple weeks and would love for you to join us and fellow Tammy supporters in DC."

The invite asked donors to join Debra Katz, the attorney for Ford, Lisa Banks, and End Citizens United for a cocktails and conversation event with Baldwin on Monday Oct. 1 in Dupont Circle in Washington, D.C. The invite includes four levels of participation ranging from $100 (supporter) to $1,000 (host).

The Free Beacon reached out to the Katz's law firm for comment but was told they would call back.

However, the fundraiser has now been canceled, according to CNN, which also obtained a copy of the invite. Baldwin's campaign said the invite was old despite being sent out Thursday morning.

Leah Vukmir, Baldwin's Republican opponent, told the Free Beacon before it was reported the event had been canceled that Baldwin would fundraise off of any situation.

"In the most despicable manner, Senator Baldwin, who opposed Judge Kavanaugh within 48 hours of his nomination and refused to meet with him, will be holding a political fundraiser with the lawyers of Dr. Ford who is now accusing him of sexual assault," Vukmir said. "Baldwin and her Democrat colleagues will take advantage and fundraise off any situation—even the most egregious. This November, it's imperative that we fire Baldwin who always puts herself before Wisconsin."

Baldwin immediately opposed Kanavaugh's nomination and only asked for a meeting with the nominee after Vukmir said she would meet with every nominee if elected.

Baldwin's campaign did not immediately return a request for comment.
