Susan Rice to Testify Before House Intelligence Committee

Former National Security Adviser Susan Rice will be interviewed by the House Intelligence Committee in late July as part of the ongoing investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.

The interview will be a high-profile target for Republicans who accused former President Barack Obama's adviser of improperly handling classified intelligence reports, according to CNN.

Rice, a top official in the Obama administration, had requested on several occasions the identities of "masked" U.S. persons in intelligence reports linked to President Donald Trump's transition and campaign, according to press reports.

Rice has denied any wrongdoing. "The allegation is that somehow the Obama administration officials utilized intelligence for political purposes. That's absolutely false," she told MSNBC in April.

Rice declined a request to appear before a Senate judiciary subcommittee in May, but has now agreed to appear in a closed-door session expected to occur before the House adjourns for its August recess.

Trump weighed in on the matter in May, tweeting that Rice's refusal to testify was "not good."

"Susan Rice, the former National Security Advisor to President Obama, is refusing to testify before the Senate Subcommittee next week on allegations of unmasking Trump transition officials. Not good!!" Trump tweeted.

Both Republicans and Democrats have been inviting witnesses who align with their partisan stances to testify before the committee regarding the Russia investigation.

Later in July, the panel is set to interview former Trump adviser Roger Stone about his contact with Russian officials. Former campaign National Security Adviser J.D. Gordon has also agreed to speak to the panel this summer.
