Report: NYPD Investigating Weiner Over Latest Sexting Scandal

The New York Police Department’s Special Victim’s Unit is looking into whether disgraced former Congressman Anthony Weiner should be charged over his sexting relationship with a 15-year-old high school girl.

Weiner exchanged sexually explicit images and messages with the girl for several months, the Daily Mail first reported Wednesday. The ex-Democratic congressman knew she was underage when he exchanged messages with her, according to both the unnamed girl and her father.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D.) said Weiner’s activities could land him in jail, the Daily Mail noted.

"I’ve only read the reports and let me say this: If the reports are true, it’s possibly criminal and it is sick," Cuomo told reporters. "And frankly, I’ve heard enough about Anthony Weiner and I think that goes for all New Yorkers."

Celebrity lawyer Joe Tacopina told the Daily Mail that Weiner could face a misdemeanor charge of endangering the welfare of a child, which could lead to a year in jail and three years probation.

Weiner’s wife, top Hillary Clinton aide Huma Abedin, announced earlier this month that she was leaving him over a separate sexting incident. Weiner had sent another woman a photo of his crotch with his 4-year-old son lying next to him in bed, leading Children’s Services to launch an investigation into the matter.
