Morning Joe Panel: Hillary Clinton Polling Badly Because People Do Not Trust Her

A day after Quinnipiac University released polls showing Hillary Clinton with poor favorability numbers in swing states and losing head-to-head races to top Republican candidates, Morning Joe’s panel Thursday dove deeper into the numbers and the trust issues Clinton has with the public.

The Clinton campaign fired back at the poll, claiming that the university did not look at exit polls in the last presidential election and focused just on a sample group.

Weekly Standard editor Bill Kristol said the Clinton campaign should be worried about the numbers. Morning Joe host Joe Scarborough agreed, saying this was not a mere case of being just a few points underwater in favorability.

"That’s just devastating, and I really don’t know what she does in the coming months to turn it around," Scarborough said.

Lanhee Chen of the Hoover Institute said that Clinton had some underlying problems, the biggest being her ongoing problem with low honesty numbers.

"Some of this stuff is wearing on her, the emails, Benghazi, whatever it is," he said. "To be 21 points underwater in Colorado, that’s a big problem."

Chen added another problem facing Clinton is that she cannot get left of socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.), who has drawn the biggest crowds of the campaign and incited enthusiasm with the party base with populist rhetoric.
